AC/DC’s first album in six years, Power Up, is an instant success on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums and Hard Rock Albums charts, debuting atop both tallies dated Nov. 28.
In its maiden tracking week (Nov. 13-19), the set earned 117,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Of that sum, 111,000 are from album sales.
AC/DC now has four No. 1s on the Top Rock Albums chart, which began in 2006. The rockers’ first release since the chart started, Black Ice, ruled for two weeks in November 2008, followed by the band’s soundtrack to Iron Man 2 (May 2010) and Rock or Bust (three weeks, December 2014-January 2015). The act has the same amount of No. 1s on Hard Rock Albums, which began in 2007.
AC/DC also reigns on the all-format Billboard 200, where Power Up is its third No. 1 and first since Black Ice.
With lead Power Up single “Shot in the Dark” concurrently No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart for a third week, AC/DC becomes the first act to rule Mainstream Rock Songs and the Billboard 200 simultaneously since Green Day, whose Revolution Radio and “Bang Bang” topped both tallies dated Oct. 29, 2016.
“Shot in the Dark” also paces six Power Up tracks on the airplay-, sales- and streaming-based Hot Hard Rock Songs chart, returning to its No. 2 high. Two of those entries, “Shot in the Dark” and “Realize,” also appear on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs list at Nos. 12 and 34, respectively.
