Tina Turner made a comeback like no other with her 1984 hit “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” a song that won three Grammys and a place in the history books with the U.S. singer setting the mark as the-then oldest solo female artist to top the Billboard Hot 100, at age 44.
The 1993 biopic on Turner’s life and career borrowed its title from the song, and won Angela Bassett a Golden Globe Award for her performance in the lead role.
The song still has legs. “What’s Love Got to Do With It” returned to sales charts around the world in 2020, thanks to a remix by Norwegian DJ and producer Kygo.
On Monday night’s (Nov. 30) episode of The Voice, Desz channeled Turner for a cover of the comeback classic.
Wearing a floor-length red dress, the 30-year-old Houston native injected soul and sass into her Live Top 17 performance.
Earlier in the season, the Team Kelly contestant got viewers and coaches buzzing with her blind audition to Toni Braxton’s “Un-break My Heart,” earning a four-chair turn.
