Following its first full week of tracking, Foo Fighters’ “Shame Shame” is already No. 1 on Billboard’s Rock Airplay chart dated Nov. 21, vaulting from its No. 38 start.
In the Nov. 9-15 tracking week after its release late Nov. 7, “Shame Shame” rules with 9.3 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
The song’s sprint to No. 1 is the quickest in four years, since Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Dark Necessities” also needed just two frames in May 2016.
Only seven songs have either debuted at No. 1 or risen to the top in their second weeks since Rock Airplay premiered in 2009, and Foo Fighters boast three of those tracks, with “Shame Shame” joined by “Something from Nothing” (two weeks, November 2014) and “Rope” (No. 1 debut, March 2011).
In all, Foo Fighters now have seven Rock Airplay rulers, pulling the band back out of a tie with Green Day for the most in the chart’s history. The Foos had last led with “The Sky Is a Neighborhood” in December 2017.

Sparking its rise to No. 1 on Rock Airplay, “Shame Shame” ranks on all three of the list’s spins-based component airplay charts, led by its vault from No. 34 to No. 4 in its second week on Mainstream Rock Songs. It becomes Foo Fighters’ 26th Mainstream Rock Songs top 10, slotting the band into a three-way tie for the third-most in the ranking’s nearly 40-year history, alongside Godsmack and Van Halen. Only Tom Petty (28; solo and with the Heartbreakers) and Shinedown (27) have more.
“Shame Shame” debuts at No. 12 on Alternative Airplay, the chart’s top start since Twenty One Pilots’ “Jumpsuit” bowed at No. 8 in July 2018. Foo Fighters add their 35th entry on the survey, tying Green Day for third all-time behind U2 (42) and Pearl Jam (40). On Adult Alternative Songs, “Shame Shame” premieres at No. 15, the band’s best debut.
On the multi-metric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs tally, “Shame Shame” begins at No. 11, with its airplay start flanked by 774,000 U.S. streams and 4,000 downloads in its first full tracking week (Nov. 6-12). It enters at the same spot on Hot Alternative Songs.
“Shame Shame” is the lead single from Medicine at Midnight, Foo Fighters’ 10th studio album and first since 2017’s Concrete and Gold, due Feb. 5, 2021.
