Season 2 of Verzuz kicks off on Thursday night (Nov. 19) with a much-hyped face-off between none other than Gucci Mane and Jeezy.
The two rappers have been embattled for years in a long and very public feud involving multiple diss tracks, physical altercations and even a murder charge against Gucci Mane in the 2006 shooting death of Jeezy’s friend and former labelmate Pookie Loc. (The rapper was later acquitted of the charges.)
The battle had originally been scheduled between Jeezy and T.I., but after some behind-the-scenes negotiating, Gucci took T.I.’s place with the rapper’s blessing. “Now THIS … Is what the people wants to see!!” he wrote on Instagram alongside the news of the updated battle, adding, “Trap Muzik salutes y’all.”
The Verzuz showdown between Gucci and Jeezy will take place on Apple Music on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT. Don’t have Apple Music? As with previous face-offs, the battle will also air live on the platform’s official Instagram account as an Instagram Live.
Last season, Verzuz became a viral sensation during quarantine thanks to battles between the likes of Lil Jon and T-Pain, Timbaland and Swizz Beatz, and Jill Scott and Erykah Badu. Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle also made a memorable showing as the first season’s final battle, while the Brandy vs. Monica duel became the most-watched battle in Verzuz history, with 1.2 million viewers tuning in to watch the R&B legends go head-to-head.
