Travis Scott teamed up with Playstation on Thursday night (Nov. 12) for the “A Travis Scott + Cactus Jack Experience — PS5: Unboxing Reimagined” event, which included a performance by James Blake and a tribute to Pop Smoke. The event celebrating the eagerly anticipated PlayStation 5 gaming console.
But that’s not all — Scott also designed his own version of the Nike Dunk Low sneaker, the Nike Dunk Low Cactus Jack x PlayStation, which will be given out to five fans who sign up for a raffle here until the end of Friday (Nov. 13).
The global “Unboxing Reimagined” event celebrated the intersection of gaming, music and culture, and paid homage to Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. In the intro, Scott discovers a massive, black monolith in the desert that turns out to be the new PS5, leading to a montage of images from the super hi-def games on the system.
The visual then pivots to a pair of gamers getting a surprise delivery of a PS5 from Scott, who is hiding in a tricked-out van, waiting to deliver a pair of systems to them after they play some socially distanced games.
Blake drops by to perform a moving piano and voice rendition of “Do You Ever” from a weird digital netherworld, followed by a clip tribute to late rapper Pop Smoke.
Scott has also designed a merch capsule collection in partnership with PlayStation that dropped just after the online experience, which features t-shirts, sweatshirts, workpants, beanies and skateboard decks.
