Kelly Clarkson set the stage ablaze with her alt-rock “Kellyoke” performance of Vertical Horizon’s hit “Everything You Want” on Monday (Dec. 7).
The Kelly Clarkson Show stage relit the virtual flames from her cover of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire” and illuminated the daytime talk-show host. She howled the lovelorn lyrics about a woman who can’t accept a man’s love to be her absolute everything, singing, “He’s everything you want/ He’s everything you need/ He’s everything inside of you/ That you wish you could be/ He says all the right things/ At exactly the right time/ But he means nothing to you/ And you don’t know why.”
Vertical Horizon’s Matt Scannell felt honored by Clarkson and her band Y’all’s performance. “Nice. What a voice! Thanks for singing my song, @kellyclarkson! Your band killed it as well!” he wrote on Twitter while sharing The Kelly Clarkson Show’s video.
“Everything You Want” topped the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Top 40 Songs chart back in 2000 and was nominated for top 40 track of the year and Hot 100 airplay track of the year at the 2000 Billboard Music Awards, eventually winning the first award.
