After releasing a lot of great trap and reggae hits, Farruko returned to his reggaeton roots with the release of “Toxica” in July. The track has single-handedly become an anthem for independent and single ladies in 2020.
“I always experiment with different rhythms but I wanted to go back to my roots, but obviously with a modern concept and fusing it with other sounds,” Farruko previously told Billboard. “The song is like a roller coaster of rhythms and emotions — it has unexpected changes. When you first listen to the song, you’ll think it’ll stay like that [a slow ballad] but then it just picks up. That was my mission, for it to showcase different emotions in one song.”
Four months after, Farruko dropped a star-studded collaboration with Sech, Myke Towers, Jay Wheeler, and Tempo, which made its grand debut at the 2020 Billboard Latin Music Awards on Oct. 21.
Keeping its infectious beats and empowering lyrics, the remix not only combines the distinct voice and flow of each artist but also emphasizes the importance of living your best life after getting out of a toxic relationship.
On the Billboard charts, “La Tóxicoa” peaked at No. 4 on the Hot Latin Songs chart dated Nov. 7, and on Latin Airplay, it peaked at No. 3 on the chart dated Nov. 14.
The remix counts with a new visual treatment directed by Fernando Lugo and shows all five artists at a lively block party.
