Phoebe Bridgers is a woman of her word.
The singer/songwriter promised on Election Day (Nov. 3) that she’d cover Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris” if Trump lost re-election. Now 10 days later — much to the delight of the ever-patient Goo Goo Dolls themselves — Bridgers keeps her promise, while enlisting someone for her campaign: Maggie Rogers.
After Bridgers tweeted out the outro lyrics on Nov. 6, the day Joe Biden was projected to win the race and was declared the President-elect, Rogers replied, “u need some harmonies for that special tune ?” The Punishers artist said she was willing to “give up forever to harmonize with you,” and the rest is history — for only 24 hours, that is.
Their cover of the 1998 top 10 hit is only available via Bridgers’ Bandcamp on Friday (Nov. 13), with proceeds from the track benefiting Stacey Abrams’ Fair Fight, which promotes fair elections in Georgia and around the nation, encourages voter participation, and educates voters about their rights.
