Luis Gabriel Castillo has been appointed president of music distributor Altafonte in the Andean and Central America region, Billboard can confirm.
With a background in management at companies such as Sony Music (marketing VP), Deezer (general manager) and The Coca Cola Company, “he’ll reinforce Altafonte’s presence and activity in this important territory, which has an incredible concentration of musical talent,” said Altafonte CEO’s Nando Luaces.”We are happy with the incorporation in Altafonte of a person with Luis Gabriel’s talent and experience.”
Camilo Vega, managing director of the region, adds, “It is amazing how much we have grown this year, even though 2020 is quite challenging. It’s been a great joy to start working with important labels and artists from the region. And to increase our happiness, the arrival of Luis Gabriel as president will strengthen us along all our structures.”
Castillo’s appointment comes as Altafonte, the Madrid-based digital distribution and marketing company launched in 2011, enters a joint venture with 547 Studios — label founded by Colombian DJ Pope (J Balvin’s longtime DJ) — to help propel the careers of young Colombian artists Slay Fox and Homie, among additional new signees that will be announced soon.
In a statement, Castillo said, “building strong relations with labels, musicians, songwriters and producers is what I like the most about this wonderful opportunity.”
