Chicago R&B singer Ann Marie was booked into jail in Fulton County, Georgia, on last Wednesday (Dec. 2) after her arrest for allegedly shooting a man in the head.
According to police records, the 25-year-old “Secret” artist (born Joann Marie Slater) was charged with possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the incident that took place at a hotel in the Atlanta suburb of Buckhead, as reported by CBS 46.
The shooting reportedly took place on Dec. 1 at the Intercontinental Buckhead Hotel, with an officer responding to shots fired at the hotel and an unnamed 24-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
The network reported that the man was “somewhat responsive” when police interviewed him and offered some answers to their questions before being transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
The police report noted that a woman on the scene identified as Ann Marie allegedly told officers that “a gun fell off of a table in the hotel room,” which caused it to go off and a bullet to strike the victim. The responding officer reportedly described the singer as “screaming hysterically,” requiring her to be removed from the room where the man was shot.
Ann Marie was booked into Fulton County Jail a short time later, and reportedly continued to ask about the status of the victim, whom she described as a childhood friend from Chicago who was visiting Atlanta with her.
The Interscope Records signee is best known for her song “Secret” featuring YK Osiris, and for the albums Ann Marie, Unf—witable, Tripolar, Tripolar 2 and Pretty Psycho.
At press time, a spokesperson for Ann Marie could not be reached for additional comment and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office had not returned requests for information on Slater’s bond in the case.
