300 Entertainment has brought on longtime record label A&R veteran Rob Stevenson as a partner in the company. Stevenson, who had previously held the role of executive vp at Republic Records and had managed the relaunch of Casablanca Records under the Republic umbrella, will be working alongside 300 co-founder/CEO Kevin Liles and overseeing new distribution, publishing and consumer engagement initiatives, the company said.
Stevenson and Liles had worked together at Island Def Jam in the late 1990s and 2000s, where Stevenson oversaw the signings of rock and alternative acts like Sum 41, The Killers and Fall Out Boy, eventually rising to executive vp A&R before moving to Virgin America in 2008 as president of A&R. There, he worked on blockbuster releases like Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream and albums by LCD Soundsystem and the Beastie Boys, before moving to Republic in 2011.
“I’m excited to write this next chapter of my career with the team that helped me begin my journey in the music business,” Stevenson said in a statement. “In so many ways this doesn’t feel like a new job, but a return home. I’m looking forward to working with Kevin and the 300 team to craft a modern definition of what a record label is, and how best to support artists today.”
As executive vp A&R at Republic, Stevenson signed Gotye, whose “Somebody That I Used To Know” feat. Kimbra won the Grammy for record of the year in 2012, and led the teams that signed artists like Post Malone, James Bay and Of Monsters and Men to the label. In 2014, he was elevated to executive vp of the whole label, working with artists across all facets of the company.
He joins 300 at a high point for the company, which was founded in 2013 by Liles, Roger Gold, current YouTube global head of music Lyor Cohen and current Alamo Records CEO Todd Moscowitz. The label is coming off a hugely successful year for breakout star and best new artist nominee Megan Thee Stallion, as well as chart successes for Young Thug and Gunna, among the slew of other artists signed to the company.
Liles was recently named executive of the year in Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Power issue.
“Rob and I share a very clear vision of an artist and digital first company,” Liles said in a statement. “His experience, leadership and love for music makes him a perfect fit amongst our senior leadership team. As partner, he will work directly with me at creating the next chapter in the book of 300.”
