Taylor Swift may have something up her sleeve — at least that’s what fans are taking away from a recent social media post from the pop superstar.
On Sunday (Nov. 22), the 30-year-old singer took to Twitter and Instagram to share a black-and-white photo of herself lounging on a couch in what appears to a wooden cabin. Naturally, the mysterious prompted tons of speculation and conspiracy theories from fans.
“not a lot going on at the moment,” Swift wrote alongside the image, which has a similar vibe to photos from her 2020 surprise album, Folklore.
Swifties quickly began scrutinizing the cryptic post, pointing out that the star has posted a similar message in the past. In late April, several months before releasing Folklore, Swift wrote the same words when captioning a selfie on social media.
“LAST TIME SHE DID THIS SHE STARTED RECORDING FOLKLORE,” one fan commented on Twitter, sharing a side-by-side comparison of the two posts. “MS. SWIFT WHAT ARE YOU DOING.”
Some are hoping it could be a hint that Swift will soon be dropping her ninth studio album. “TS9 IS COMING,” another fan wrote. Others believe the singer is teasing the music video for her Folkore song “Exile,” featuring Bon Iver.
Meanwhile, many fans are guessing it could somehow relate to Swift’s previous announcement that she plans to re-record her past albums. Ever since her Big Machine Label Group music catalog was purchased in June 2019 by Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings (and more recently to Shamrock Holdings), the superstar has made a plan to re-record her first five albums in an attempt to own her music given the difficult circumstances.
At the time, Swift noted that in November 2020, her contact would allow her to re-record her self-titled debut (2006), Fearless (2008), Speak Now (2010), Red (2012) and 1989 (2014).
“I almost want to bet she’s re-recording Red!” one fan speculated on Twitter. “Her hair looks like it from that era as well.”
