The Piano Guys embark on a Christmas journey to “Little Jerusalem” to perform their fan-favorite holiday hymn “What Child Is This.”
Their video from Tuesday (Dec. 8) invokes the true Christmas spirit with lifelike replicas of the nativity scene in Goshen, Utah, dotting their starry-night performance. The “Little Jerusalem” set also served as the backdrop of their “O come, O come, Emmanuel” performance from 2012. It will now be the official set of Christmas With the Chosen special, which is set to livestream Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on YouTube. The Piano Guys will perform during the special, as well as For King & Country, Hillsong United and many more.
“In our arrangement of ‘What Child is This’ we wanted to depict some of the feelings that must have been present at the manger scene at the center of the Christmas so long ago — awe, wonder, consternation, all tempered and sweetened with hope,” The Piano Guys said in a press statement. “As people listen we want them to hear and feel the propitiousness and vulnerability of the birth of the Baby Jesus — a baby born in the humblest of circumstances, and yet born with the ability to overcome the world and make all things right — a story, perhaps, meant to comfort all who feel vulnerable and need hope in their own life.”
The electric cello also accompanied their namesake piano instrument for the 2020 version of “What Child Is This,” which was originally featured on their 2017 Christmas album Christmas Together.
The Piano Guys will deliver a special encore performance of “What Child Is This” on Good Morning America’s GMA3 program on Dec. 22 at 1 p.m. ET on ABC.
