A film’s score amplifies the emotion tied to each scene, and Grammy-winning Terence Blanchard has worked with director Spike Lee to compose and provide the perfect musical ambiance for more than 15 of his films.
One of those is Netflix’s Da 5 Bloods, an American war drama released in 2020 that follows a group of Vietnam War veterans who return to the Asian country to find the remains of their fallen leader and the treasure they buried there.
In celebration of the powerful, thought-provoking film, Blanchard conducted a unique performance of Da 5 Bloods’ epic score, teaming up with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra at the majestic Orpheum Theater in New Orleans, as part of this week’s Netflix Playlist series.
“I’ve had the privilege and the blessing for the great, great Terence Blanchard to do the scores for my many, many, many films,” Lee introduced his collaborator ahead of the performance. “He did a lot.”
