Nominations for the 2021 Grammy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, and Billboard has some big bets for who could be up for song of the year.
Billboard awards editor Paul Grein thinks Taylor Swift could receive her fifth nod in this Big Four category, which would surpass any other female songwriter in Grammy history, if “Cardigan” is up for the award. Likewise, Max Martin could secure his fifth nod if “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd gets a nomination for song of the year.
But if Lil Baby’s “The Bigger Picture” and H.E.R.‘s “I Can’t Breathe” both make it onto the Grammy ballot, then it would mark the first time that two racial justice anthems have received nominations within the same year. Previously, Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” (2015), Beyoncé’s “Formation” (2016) and Childish Gambino’s “This Is America” (2018) have all received nods, with Gambino’s “America” going on to win in this category as well as record of the year, best rap/sung performance and best music video.
